Thanks for sharing this thoughtful piece, Demetri! Reading between (beyond?) the lines, it seems that concern about distractions underscore a desire for meaningful engagement, learning that really matters. Here is where PBL can play an essential role in digital age learning (flipping the subject from technology and pedagogy). I also enjoyed seeing that the benefit that comes from using laptops is in the extension of learning beyond class-time, which is also a strength of PBL. I look forward to many discussions on this ning on the topic of making sure that students have the opportunities to stretch their learning skills, and am pretty sure that fairly often the confluence of PBL and creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, information fluency, and digital citizenship will reveal best practices that are supported by our newly expanded ways of knowing in the digital age.
